I continued my Bank holiday Sunday of cakery happiness after my amazing visit to “Cake Britain”, returned home to sort out my garb/hair for “The Underground Tea Party” shin-dig. I moulded my hair into a vintage 1940’s style which gave me blood loss in my arms due to the amount of hair arranging, dressed up in my waist swinging floral skirt and black tea top. I hopped out of the door to West Croydon… Ah yes, West Croydon… got 100% lost between the tram-ways and skyscrapers like a panic stricken pac man! Eventually 15 mins late I turned up at the right location, a lovely terrace house where I was greeted by Miss Lenoir wearing a superb blue sparkly sari and a hug! We entered the tea party room, decorated with a lavish amount of dried flowers and colourful beads on the table. The tea set which was provided was a great mis-match of charity shop buys; my strawberry swirl cupcake lured me towards my seat.
I was introduced to the other guests who were sipping on pink champagne; Miss Fairplay (the other lovely hostess) thrust a glass of the stuff into my hands. What was so lovely about this tea party is that the majority of people didn’t know each other; we were just a bunch of bloggers and twitters who held an interest in bakery and events.
Small talk went bang out the picture once the sandwiches came around, the sandwich fillings were mango chutney & chicken, sweet corn & tuna and cherry tomatoes with bree. A selection of teas was offered and I chose the peony and rosebud which was new tea tastiness for me, served in my own tea pot with refills. UBER TEA GLUTTONY! Whilst munching on the lavender shortbread Miss tackled the often asked question “why did you set up the Underground Tea Party”, many reasons popped up and here are the main points why:
- To meet new interesting peoples. Their main client base is through twitter to folks who have similar interests.
- Both Miss Fairplay and Miss Lenoir are heavily involved in art and events, their wanted to combine their talents to create a at home event. Firstly they were tempted by having a underground supper party but logically and realistically they decided against that idea due to preparation and costs, instead they thought there would be a better niche market with a home tea party event (good thinking gals)
- Just to bake a delicious array of bakery tea yums!
Lastly I managed to squish in a slice of almond cake with a apricot jam topping, totally pumped with food and my fellow tea party attendees tum’s had reached full capacity. Some couldn’t handle the cake so they had a slice put in a plastic container for later. We all exited the house feeling rather heavy. My end verdict is that I really applaud Miss Fairplay and Miss Lenoir for such a Fabada afternoon tea, I definitely feel that my money was well spent and that the food was baked & presented in a professional homey manner. I would spend my cash on another of their tea partiesJ Please check out their blog and website for more information! http://undergroundteaparty.blogspot.com/
